Woman steals deputy’s cruiser after escaping from handcuffs

WAHOO, Nebraska – Authorities say a 23-year-old woman faces numerous charges after she was arrested but able to slip out of handcuffs and take off in a deputy’s cruiser.

According to Saunders County authorities, deputies were investigating a disturbance and had taken Jessica L. Lewin, 23, of Ashland, into custody.

As a deputy was gathering information from witnesses, Saunders County authorities said, Lewin slipped off her handcuffs and drove away in the patrol car.

Lewin was taken into custody and charged with terroristic threats, escaping, flight to avoid arrest, felony theft, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and driving under suspension. Full Article
