AMARILLO, Texas - A convicted killer from Harris County climbed a fence and escaped early Monday from a prison in Amarillo, state corrections officials said.
A corrections officer on patrol at the Neal Unit spotted 34-year-old Marvin Garcia on the fence about 3:40 a.m. and fired six shots at him, but Garcia got over the fence and fled, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark said. It was not immediately certain if Garcia was hit.
Tracking dogs, Potter County sheriff's deputies and Amarillo police were involved in the hunt for Garcia, who in June 2010 began serving a 25-year sentence for murder. More
