Death of child left in refrigerator officially ruled a homicide; charges expected

Houston - The death of a 9-year-old girl whose body was left in a refrigerator officially has been ruled a homicide.

Ayahna Comb's dehydrated and malnourished body was discovered in the refrigerator of her mother's apartment in southwest Houston in early June. A caseworker with Child Protective Services said in a court hearing days later that the girl had died in late January and left in the kitchen appliance.

"Investigators are aware of the ruling, and do expect charges to be filed," said Jodi Silva, a Houston Police Department spokeswoman. "It's too early to say when and what type of charges will be filed."

Ayahna's body weighed just 14 pounds when discovered in the apartment of her mother, 34-year-old Amber Keyes (picture). She and Armand Comb, Ayahna's 38-year-old father, had broken up years before and did not live together.  More
