Cops shoot ‘hammer’ attack suspect after attempting to smash female officer

New York – A man who assaulted three women and a man in Manhattan with a hammer was shot twice in Midtown Wednesday after violently swinging the tool at a female cop, police said.

The gunfire erupted at W. 37th St. and Eighth Ave. about 10 a.m. after two cops identified him as a suspect wanted for the random hammer attacks on Monday.

NYPD Chief of Manhattan Detectives William Aubry said a male and a female cop recognized him as the suspect wanted for attacking people over a six-hour period on Monday.

They followed him but he turned around and began attacking the female cop, Aubry said. More
