Man stole money from cars to support pizza habit

A Cicero man who told he police he loved pizza and wished to sample an array of pies in the western suburbs has been accused of stealing loose money from unlocked vehicles to support his gastronomic habit, authorities said.

Dany Y. Ortiz, 21, of the 5200 block of West 22nd Place, was charged with felony burglary to a motor vehicle after his arrest Monday, according to a news release from Riverside police.

“This is one of the most unusual and bizarre burglary patterns I have ever come across in my 31 years in law enforcement,” Riverside police Chief Thomas Weitzel said.

Several vehicle burglaries had been reported in Riverside in recent weeks. More
