Shoppers Throw Cans, Use Baseball Bats in Melee at Upstate NY Wal-Mart

GATES, New York – Police in Gates released surveillance video of a weekend brawl inside the Chili Avenue Walmart which began when, officers said, two 17-year-old girls began verbally disparaging a 24-year-old woman’s clothing.

A fight then erupted between the women and members of their families, according to Gates Police Chief Jim VanBrederode, who said the people fighting began reaching for items on the shelves to use as weapons.

VanBrederode said some even ran to the sporting goods section to pick up baseball bats. Extra police were brought in to stop the fight.

Nykia Brooks, 17, of Chili is charged with assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. Brooks is accused of throwing a can of food and hitting a 52-year-old man in the head. More Video
