Lone off-duty Texas police officer armed with a pistol shot down two gunmen armed with assault rifles

Garland, Texas – A lone off-duty Texas traffic police officer armed with a pistol shot down two gunmen armed with assault rifles who tried to storm a suburban Dallas community center hosting a controversial contest involving cartoons of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, Garland cops said.

The unnamed, tenured officer was able to fatally shoot both Elton Simpson (picture) and Nafir Soofi, roommates from Phoenix who reportedly traveled to Garland to attack the inflammatory art show Sunday evening.

Simpson was well known to the FBI after a 2011 conviction of lying to federal agents in a terrorism probe.

“He (the officer) did what he was trained to do and under the fire he was put under, he did a very good job, and probably saved lives,” Garland police Officer Joe Harn said at a Monday morning news conference. More
