New Orleans police officer fatally shot in head while transporting suspect

New Orleans - A New Orleans police officer was killed in the line of duty Saturday after a suspect he was transporting shot him in the head from the back of his patrol car, according to reports.

Officer Daryle Holloway, 46, was killed during a struggle with accused shooter Travis Bois (picture), who managed to take the officer's gun, The Times-Picayune reported.

"This is an extremely sad day for the police department and a sad day for the city of New Orleans," Superintendent Michael Harrison told the newspaper.

Bois, 33, managed to slip his way out of handcuffs while sitting in the backseat of the cruiser. He stuck his hand in an opening in the cage separating the front and back seats to grab Holloway’s gun, according to The Times-Picayune.  More
