Inmate freed in error faces robbery count

A recent prison inmate is being held on charges he robbed a Concord gas station clerk at knifepoint Sunday night - two days after he was mistakenly released into the community, corrections officials said.

James Rand, 44, was arrested early yesterday morning on charges he held a knife to the torso of a female clerk and tried to steal her car Sunday night while robbing the Cumberland Farms on Manchester Street.
A felon with a lengthy prison record, Rand had been out on parole - mistakenly - for the past two days.

Prison officials said Rand, who was most recently in prison for forgery, should have been paroled to the county jail because he faced receiving stolen property charges.  Full Article
