Antioch man charged with impersonating cop to rob home

ANTIOCH -- An Antioch teenager accused of impersonating a police detective while robbing someone's home two months ago has been charged with burglary and other crimes, police said.

The Contra Costa District Attorney's Office also charged 19-year-old Kelsey Scales on Monday with possession of stolen property, attempted auto theft and impersonating an officer, according to Antioch police Sgt. Steve Bias. The charges stemmed from a May 25 robbery of a home in the 3600 block of Baywood Circle in Antioch.

Scales is accused of knocking on the front door of the home with another man at 1:20 a.m. and telling the resident they were law enforcement officials armed with a search warrant. The men, who police said were dressed in partial police uniforms, searched the front area of the house while instructing a second resident to remain in a bedroom, Bias said.

But one of the residents persisted with questions, was skeptical of the uniforms and eventually confronted the two men, Bias said. The two men immediately left.  More
