Gretna storeowner arrested after police say he hit a customer with a pipe

A Gretna gas station owner apparently didn't get the memo about the customer always being right because police say he struck a customer with a metal pipe after the two men argued about a purchase Sunday. Abdelrahman Ahmed, 31, of 2748 Fairfield St., was booked with aggravated battery by Gretna Police and remains in custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in lieu of $10,000 bond.
According to an arrest report, Gretna police officers were called to 1000 Franklin Street after receiving a report of a disturbance at a gas station.

When officers arrived, they learned Ahmed had been arguing with an unidentified customer inside of the business about whether the customer had paid for a package of cigarillos. After the argument, the customer left the business.

But Ahmed allegedly grabbed a metal pipe from beneath the counter and followed the customer outside, according to the report. The men engaged in a shouting match outside that escalated to shoving, the report stated.  More
