New Orleans: Nine Hurt In Tourist Area Shooting

Nine people have been injured, including one critically, after they were shot in the tourist heart of old New Orleans.

The attack took place in Bourbon Street in the US city's celebrated French Quarter early on Sunday, New Orleans police spokesman Frank Robertson said.

The wounded were taken to hospital after the shooting and most were in a stable condition.

All nine were attacked just two blocks from historic Jackson Square and just around the corner from the popular Pat O'Brien's piano bar.

Police said an investigation is ongoing and Mr Robertson said no arrests had been made and no suspects identified.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said there would be a swift response from law-enforcement agencies. More
