Man Arrested After Fight With Officers Who Wouldn’t Let Him Save His Dog From Burning Home

Chicago – An Air Force veteran was ordered held on $300,000 bond after he allegedly hit a police officer Friday at the scene of his burning home that left his dog dead and three firefighters hospitalized, authorities said.

Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. handed down the bail amount in bond court Saturday for Samuel Lee Bassett (picture).

“You should have more respect for police officers,” the judge said.

The incident began about 2 p.m. Friday when a basement fire broke out at Bassett’s home in the 11300 block of South Elizabeth Street on the Far South Side. More
