Texas Aryan Brotherhood kingpin gets 50 years in solitary confinement – ‘He will be in a box for 23 hours a day’

Texas – James Byrd, 45, one of the Lone Star State’s most notorious gang leaders as the boss of the Aryan Brotherhood, was sentenced to 50 “very hard years” confined to his cell for 23 hours a day in a state prison, Texas officials said Monday.

Byrd, known as “Byrdman,” was already in federal prison for such brutal crimes as stabbing a man then force-feeding his victim a piece of blood-soaked bread, slashing another man in the face 37 times, and master minding a meth ring, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Texas prosecutors pushed for the harsh sentence and to switch Byrd from federal prison into state prison, where solitary confinement is permitted for inmates with gang affiliation. More
