Old man stole hat and used truck to run over police officer who tried to stop him

An old man was charged with trying to kill a police officer after stealing a hat and running over a police officer who tried to stop him, according to police in Louisiana.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) said that on Friday, an officer was working as a security guard at a business in the Alexandria Mall. 

At around 4:00 p.m., the officer was informed that an older man had taken a hat and left the store without paying.
