Judge to murderer: I want to sentence you to life in a garbage Dumpster

Syracuse, NY – A judge told a Syracuse man who bludgeoned his girlfriend to death and left her in a Dumpster that he wanted the murderer to spend the rest of his life in the same place.

County Court Judge Anthony Aloi said he hoped James Guilford never again walked the streets a free man. But under state law, Aloi noted the most he could sentence Guilford to was 25 years to life in prison.

“You treated Sharon Nugent like a piece of garbage,” Aloi said of the February 2007 murder. “There are no reasons, no excuses for what you’ve done.”

Later, the judge added: “If I had it in my power, I would sentence you to spend the rest of your life in a garbage Dumpster.” More
