Love triangle, fatal attraction at heart of poison doctor trial

Houston – A cancer doctor at MD Anderson in the middle of a love triangle poisoned her lover because of a fatal attraction, prosecutors told jurors Monday.

“This case is about a woman who was totally obsessed,” Assistant Harris County District Attorney Justin Keiter said in opening statements of the trial of Ana Gonzalez-Angulo. “This defendant had a fatal attraction.”

The 43-year-old doctor is accused of poisoning George Blumenschein, another cancer doctor and researcher at the same hospital with whom she had a casual sexual relationship.

Blumenschein began an intimate relationship with Gonzalez-Angulo, a work colleague, in 2011 while living with his long-term girlfriend, prosecutors said. More
