Thieves Destroy DC Area Pharmacies in Search of Drugs

KENSINGTON, Md. - The owners of the Knowles Apothecary on Connecticut Avenue in Kensington have surveillance video of Wednesday night's attempted burglary.

It shows a masked person applying blue painter's tape to their glass front door and trying to kick it in. But the alarm went off and the would-be thief took off. Hossein Ejtemai, pharmacist and store co-owner, says it's the second time in a week Knowles was hit.

In a Monday night theft, he says the thief or thieves got away with a stash of controlled substances, including the highly addictive painkiller Oxycontin. He says another drug store he co-owns, Brookeville Pharmacy on Brookeville Road in Chevy Chase, was also broken into and Oxycontin was stolen on Halloween.  More
